If you’re considering moving to Germany for studying or working, you may be wondering what monthly credit you’d need to maintain your standard of living. There are many variables that you have to take into account, especially when you are completely new to Germany.
How does it work?
- Herein, the city where your university is located will be of importance.
- The option “no expense for renting” refers to zero cost as you will be living with your family or relatives.
- The option “General” basically has been included to replace the name of cities that are not yet updated *(the city of your choice will be added on requests)
- This category is basically categorized into student dormitory and private apartments
- “Student dormitory” includes accommodation provided by the university itself and is usually cheap than other housing options. (Approx price range: 150-400 Euros and usually varies from state to state)
- “Private apartments” are those which do not belong to the university property and have high prices. *(Approx price range: 350-700 Euros and usually varies from state to state)
- Germany offers two types of health insurance options i.e. Public and Private and is without any doubt mandatory for each individual.
- “Public” health insurance option is majorly preferred by the German citizens and also foreign nationals are recommended to opt for. The prices for public health insurance are comparatively cheap than private insurance. *(Approx price range: 50-150 Euros and the companies to look for are TK and AOK)
- “Private” health insurances are very expensive and are least preferred due to their significantly high prices non-affordable by foreign nationals. *(Approx price range: 150-300 Euros)
- Under this category, the prices of meals have been segregated according to our personal experiences.
- In terms of home-cooked meals after purchasing groceries from the supermarket, the veg meals cost relatively lower monthly expenditure. *(Approx price range: 80-100 Euros)
- In terms of home-cooked meals after purchasing groceries from the supermarket, the non-veg meals cost relatively lower monthly expenditure. *(Approx price range: 100-120 Euros)
- In terms of meals purchased at the university canteen (mensa) cost more than home-cooked meals i.e. about 15-20 Euros more. *(Approx price range: 120-150 Euros)
- Cost of home-cooked and canteen purchased together costs much more than above-mentioned options. *(Approx price range: 150-200 Euros)
- “No expense for meals” basically you are supported by your family or relatives.
